Read SpaceBattles Stories Offline on a Flight

Download the SpaceBattles story before your flight and save the EPUB or PDF on the device you plan to use. Once the file is there, you can read it in airplane mode without returning to the forum.

Download the story before your flight

WP Downloader is a free web tool with nothing to install. It collects the threadmarked chapters from a SpaceBattles story thread and saves them as one book.

1. While you still have internet access, open the SpaceBattles downloader.
2. Copy the story thread URL. It should look similar to this:

3. Paste the link into WP Downloader.
4. Choose EPUB or PDF. EPUB is free for everyone, while PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.
5. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
6. Download the finished file to your device.

If the story gets new chapters later, download it again to create a new copy. WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB you already have.

Choose EPUB or PDF

Choose EPUB for a reading app, e-reader, or Amazon’s Send to Kindle service.

Choose PDF if you want to read the story in a PDF viewer. The file works offline after you download it, although creating it with WP Downloader requires a free Discord sign-in.

WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files. Amazon’s Send to Kindle accepts EPUB and PDF files and no longer accepts MOBI.

Put the book on your reading device

Save or deliver the book to your reading device before you lose your internet connection.

Phone or tablet

Download the EPUB or PDF directly to your phone or tablet, then open it in an app that supports the format. If the browser saves the file without opening it, find the download and select your reading app.

Open the book before leaving to confirm that the file is on the device and that the app can read it.

Kindle e-reader or Kindle app

Use Amazon’s Send to Kindle service while you still have internet access. You can send EPUB and PDF files by email to your Kindle’s Send-to-Kindle address, through the Send to Kindle app, or on the web. Amazon converts the EPUB and adds the book to your Kindle library, where it can appear on Kindle e-readers and in the Kindle app.

The book needs an internet connection to reach your Kindle library, so send it before the flight. When sending by email, use an address on your approved sender list.

Kobo

Download the EPUB before leaving and copy it to the Kobo you plan to carry. Open the book before the flight to confirm that the transfer finished. See the SpaceBattles Kobo guide for the device steps.

Laptop or computer

Save the EPUB or PDF on the computer and open it with a reading app or PDF viewer. Make sure the only copy is not in a browser tab or another place that requires an internet connection.

Test it in airplane mode

Before you leave, switch your phone, tablet, or other connected device to airplane mode. Open the reading app, select the story, and check a few pages.

If the story does not open, reconnect and confirm that the complete EPUB or PDF was downloaded or delivered to the right device.

For Kindle, wait until the book has appeared on the device you are taking. Sending the file alone does not confirm that delivery has finished.

Preflight checklist

• Download the story while you have internet access.
• Choose EPUB for a reading app, Kindle, or Kobo, or PDF for a PDF viewer.
• Save or send the book to the device you will carry.
• Open the book and check a few pages.
• Turn on airplane mode and open it again.
• Download the story again before the trip if you want a newer copy with recently added chapters.

Can I read a downloaded SpaceBattles story without Wi-Fi?

Yes. Once the EPUB or PDF is stored on your device, you can open it without an internet connection.

Do I need a SpaceBattles account?

No. You do not need to sign in to SpaceBattles to download a story with WP Downloader.

Can I download only one chapter?

No. For SpaceBattles, WP Downloader downloads the whole story by collecting the threadmarked chapters into one book.

Should I choose EPUB or PDF for Kindle?

EPUB is the usual choice. Send it to Kindle before the flight. Amazon accepts EPUB and PDF, converts EPUB for Kindle, and no longer accepts MOBI through Send to Kindle.

Will my existing EPUB receive new chapters automatically?

No. WP Downloader does not update an existing EPUB. Download the story again when you want a new copy with the latest chapters.
