How to Read Lumos Stories on Android

To read a Lumos story on an Android phone or tablet, download it as an EPUB or PDF with WP Downloader and open the file in a reading app. WP Downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything.

Download a Lumos story with WP Downloader

Find the story you want on lumos.sycophanthex.com. Its address will look like this:

http://lumos.sycophanthex.com/viewstory.php?sid=1234

Copy the full address from your browser, open the Lumos downloader, and paste the link into the box. WP Downloader will detect the site and download the whole story. It does not support individual Lumos chapters or story lists.

You do not need to sign in to Lumos. Choose the file format you want:

EPUB is free for everyone and opens in Android ebook apps.
PDF requires a free Discord sign-in and can be uploaded to Google Play Books.
You can choose whether to include the story’s images.

Read the story in Google Play Books

Google Play Books accepts your own DRM-free EPUB and PDF files. After uploading the Lumos story, you can read it on Android, on the web, or on an iPhone or iPad.

To add the story:

Upload the EPUB or PDF with the Google Play Books Android app.
Alternatively, use the Google Play Books website on a computer to upload it from your computer or Google Drive.
Open Google Play Books on your Android phone or tablet and select the uploaded book.

Very large files can reach Google’s upload size limit. If your copy includes images and will not upload, download the story again without images and retry.

Open the EPUB in another Android reader

You can also open the EPUB in either of these Android apps:

Moon+ Reader opens EPUB files and has a built-in text-to-speech mode.
@Voice Aloud Reader opens EPUB files and reads them aloud.

After downloading the EPUB, open it with your chosen app. The file-opening steps vary by app and Android device.

Keep the EPUB if you might want to try another reader later.

Listen to a Lumos story on Android

Android’s Select to Speak feature can read items on the screen aloud. Turn it on in Settings, then Accessibility, and use it while the story is open.

For read-aloud playback inside an EPUB app, use Moon+ Reader’s built-in text-to-speech mode or open the file in @Voice Aloud Reader.

These tools use the text-to-speech voices installed on your device, so the narration will sound different depending on the voices you have installed.

Download newly published chapters

WP Downloader cannot add chapters to an EPUB you already have. When a Lumos story is updated, return to the Lumos downloader, paste the story link again, and download a new copy.

Open or upload the new file on your Android device. If you keep both copies, check which one is newer before reading.

Should I choose EPUB or PDF for Android?
