How to Back Up SpaceBattles Stories for Personal Use

Authors can edit, unpublish, or delete their SpaceBattles stories. WP Downloader lets you save a personal copy as an EPUB or PDF. The file is a snapshot of the story that you can store on your device and read offline.

Download a SpaceBattles story with WP Downloader

WP Downloader is a free web tool, and you do not need to install anything. For SpaceBattles stories, it collects the threadmarked chapters from the forum thread and puts them in one book.

Save each download as a snapshot

An EPUB or PDF preserves the story as it appeared when you downloaded it. Your copy will not change if the author later revises a chapter, adds chapters, unpublishes the story, or deletes the thread.

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. Download the story again to save later chapters or revisions. You can replace the old copy or keep both versions under clear filenames.

One simple naming pattern is:

Story Name - SpaceBattles - 2026-10-07.epub

The date tells you when you made each snapshot, which is useful for stories that are still being updated.

Store your personal copies

Move the finished EPUB or PDF from your browser’s downloads folder to a folder you will recognize later. If you keep several versions of a story, consistent filenames make them easier to tell apart.

You can arrange your files by site, completion status, or download date. Pick a system that suits the way you read and that you can maintain.

Organize and read EPUB files with calibre

calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Use Add books to place downloaded EPUB files in your calibre library.

calibre can:

Edit book metadata and covers
Open EPUB files in its e-book viewer
Read a book aloud through the viewer’s Read aloud feature
Convert EPUB books to formats such as AZW3, MOBI, or PDF
Send books to a connected e-reader over USB

WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files. If your device requires AZW3 or MOBI, download the EPUB and convert your personal copy with calibre.

Move the book to your reading device

On a phone or tablet, download the EPUB and open it in an EPUB reader. You can keep the original file in a named folder as well as importing a copy into the reading app.

Update backups of ongoing stories

For an unfinished story, download another copy after new chapters appear. Each download creates a fresh book instead of adding chapters to the existing EPUB.

Check the filename before saving the new copy. Including the download date makes it easy to distinguish it from an older snapshot.
