How to Back Up Lumos Stories

Authors and archive sites can edit, unpublish or delete stories. If you want to reread a Lumos story later, WP Downloader can save a personal EPUB copy while the story is available. The file is a snapshot of the story at the time you downloaded it.

Download a Lumos story with WP Downloader

WP Downloader is a free web tool, and you do not need to install anything. Lumos stories do not require an account.

1. Open the Lumos downloader.
2. Copy the story address from your browser. A Lumos story link looks like this:

3. Paste the address into the box.
4. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
5. Download the EPUB.

For Lumos, WP Downloader downloads the whole story. It cannot download a single chapter or a list of stories.

EPUB is free for everyone. You can also download a PDF after signing in with a free Discord account. WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3 or TXT files.

Treat the EPUB as a dated snapshot

The EPUB contains the version that was available when you downloaded it. It will not change if the author later edits the story, adds chapters or removes it from Lumos.

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. To get the latest version, paste the story link into WP Downloader and download it again. Save the old and new files separately if you want to keep both versions.

Including the download date in each filename makes different copies easier to tell apart. Keep these files for your own reading, and do not re-upload or share them.

Keep the file on your phone or tablet

Find the EPUB in your browser’s downloads, then move or import it into the EPUB reading app you use.

You may also want to keep an untouched copy in a separate folder. Give the folder a clear name, such as Lumos backups, so the files are easy to find.

Open the EPUB after downloading it to make sure the story loads. If you included images, check the book to make sure they appear as expected.

Organize Lumos stories with calibre

Calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS and Linux. Open calibre, choose Add books, and select the downloaded EPUB.

You can organize the book in your calibre library, edit its metadata and cover, or open it in the e-book viewer. The viewer also has a Read aloud feature.

Calibre can convert EPUB files to formats such as AZW3, MOBI or PDF. You can also connect an e-reader to your computer and use calibre to send books over USB.

Keep the original EPUB if you create a converted copy. It preserves the snapshot downloaded from WP Downloader, while the converted file can be used on a device that needs another format.

Move the story to an e-reader

For Kindle, start with the EPUB and follow how to send Lumos stories to Kindle. You can also use calibre to convert the book and send it to a connected e-reader over USB.

Open the book on the destination device before deleting the original download from your phone or computer. This lets you check that you transferred the right file and can read it on the device.

Can WP Downloader save a single Lumos chapter?

No. WP Downloader downloads whole Lumos stories only. It does not download single chapters or story lists.

Will my EPUB receive new chapters automatically?

No. The EPUB is a snapshot from the time you downloaded it. Download the story again to get later chapters.

Do I need a Lumos account?

No. You do not need to sign in to download a Lumos story with WP Downloader.

Can I download a Lumos story as MOBI or AZW3?

WP Downloader does not output MOBI or AZW3. Download the EPUB and use calibre to convert it to another format.

Is it okay to share my backup?
