How to Read JoyRead Stories Offline on a Flight

Download your JoyRead story while you still have internet access. Once the EPUB or PDF is saved on your device and opens in your reading app, you can read it in airplane mode without Wi-Fi.

Download the JoyRead story before you leave

WP Downloader is a free web tool, and you do not need to install anything. Open the JoyRead downloader while you are online and follow these steps:

Copy the JoyRead story URL from your browser. A story link looks like this:

Paste the link into the box on the JoyRead downloader page.
If the story is members-only, sign in to your JoyRead account. You can skip this step for stories that are available without an account.
Choose EPUB or PDF. EPUB is free for everyone. PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.
Choose whether to include the story’s images, then download the file.

WP Downloader downloads the whole JoyRead story. It does not download individual chapters or lists. The file can include only the content your account is allowed to read, so paid or locked chapters remain unavailable unless your account already has access.

Put the story on the device you will use

Before leaving, open the file on the same phone, tablet, e-reader, or laptop you plan to use during the flight. This confirms that the file is stored on the device and opens in your reading app.

Phone or tablet

If your ebook-reading app accepts EPUB files, save the EPUB to your phone or tablet and add it to the app. Open the book once while you still have internet access.

You can also save the PDF locally and open it in a PDF-reading app. Check that you are opening the downloaded file rather than a version that is available only through a browser page or cloud service.

Kindle e-reader or Kindle app

Download the story as EPUB or PDF, then send it through Amazon’s Send to Kindle service before your flight. You can use the Send to Kindle app, the Send to Kindle website, or email the file to your Kindle’s Send-to-Kindle address.

Amazon converts EPUB files and adds them to your Kindle library. The book can then appear on Kindle e-readers and in the Kindle app. Delivery needs an internet connection, so wait until the book appears and check that it opens before boarding.

If you send the file by email, the sender must be on your approved sender list. WP Downloader does not create MOBI files, and Send to Kindle no longer accepts them.

Kobo

Download the story before you leave, then follow the JoyRead on Kobo guide to transfer it to your device. Open the book on your Kobo before the trip to confirm that it is ready.

Laptop

Save the EPUB or PDF on your laptop instead of relying on the JoyRead page to remain open. Check that your reading app can open the downloaded file without returning to the website.

Test everything in airplane mode

Test the book offline before your flight:

Finish downloading or transferring the story.
Open it on the device you plan to use.
Turn on airplane mode.
Close the book and open it again.
Move through a few chapters to confirm that they are available.

If the story does not open, reconnect to the internet and check that the file is stored on the device. Kindle users should also make sure Send to Kindle has finished delivering the book.

WP Downloader does not add new chapters to an existing EPUB. If JoyRead publishes more chapters, download the story again before your next trip to get the chapters then available to your account.

Should I choose EPUB or PDF for a flight?

Choose EPUB for an ebook-reading app or for sending the story to Kindle. Choose PDF if you prefer a fixed-page document and have a PDF-reading app on your device.

Can I download paid or locked JoyRead chapters?

WP Downloader can download only the chapters your JoyRead account is allowed to read. Signing in lets the tool reach eligible members-only content, but it does not bypass paid or locked chapters.

Do I need to send the book to Kindle before boarding?

Yes. Send to Kindle needs an internet connection to deliver the book. Send it before the flight and check that it opens on your Kindle e-reader or in the Kindle app.

Will my downloaded EPUB gain new chapters automatically?

No. WP Downloader does not update an existing EPUB. Download the story again when you want a newer copy.
