How to Read AltHistory Stories on a Barnes & Noble NOOK
To read an AltHistory story on a Barnes & Noble NOOK, download it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and copy the file to your NOOK over USB. Barnes & Noble calls copying your own files to a NOOK “sideloading.”

Download the AltHistory story as an EPUB
AltHistory stories are forum threads. WP Downloader collects the threadmarked chapters from a story thread and puts them into one book.
Find the AltHistory thread you want to read. Its address should look like this:
https://althistory.com/threads/some-story-name.123456/Copy the full story URL from your browser’s address bar. Open the AltHistory downloader, paste the link into the box, and wait for WP Downloader to detect the site.
Choose EPUB as the output format. EPUB downloads are free for everyone, and this is the file you will copy to your NOOK. You can choose whether to include the story’s images.
You do not need to sign in to AltHistory. WP Downloader downloads the whole story, not individual chapters or lists. Its support for AltHistory and other fiction archives was ported from FanFicFare, the open-source fanfiction downloader.

Connect your NOOK to your computer
After the EPUB downloads, connect your NOOK GlowLight to your computer over USB.
On newer NOOK models, change the USB setting so the computer can access the device:
- Swipe down from the top of the NOOK screen.
- Tap “USB for charging.”
- Choose “Transfer files (MTP).”
The device should appear on your computer as a drive named “NOOK.”
Copy the EPUB to your NOOK
Open the “NOOK” drive on your computer. Find the EPUB you downloaded from WP Downloader and drag it onto the drive.
Wait for the transfer to finish, then eject the NOOK from your computer before unplugging the cable. The AltHistory story will then be available to read on the device.
The EPUB contains the version of the story available when you downloaded it. WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an existing EPUB. If the author posts more threadmarked chapters, download the story again and copy the new EPUB to your NOOK.
Before you disconnect your NOOK
Check that you have:
- Copied the full AltHistory thread URL
- Downloaded the story as an EPUB
- Selected “Transfer files (MTP)” if your NOOK required it
- Dragged the EPUB onto the “NOOK” drive
- Waited for the transfer to finish
- Ejected the NOOK from your computer
