How to read an AltHistory story in KOReader
You can read an AltHistory story in KOReader by downloading the forum thread as an EPUB, copying the file to your device, and opening it from KOReader’s file browser. Once the EPUB is on your device, you can read it without an internet connection.

You will need:
- The link to an AltHistory story
- WP Downloader, a free web tool with nothing to install
- A device running KOReader
- A way to transfer the downloaded file to that device
KOReader is a free, open-source document reader for Kobo, PocketBook, and Android devices. It also runs on Kindles that have been jailbroken. It opens EPUB and PDF files. EPUB works well for this guide and is free to download from WP Downloader.
Installing KOReader on a Kobo or Kindle is a separate, unofficial process. The steps below assume that KOReader is already installed.
Step 1: Copy the AltHistory story link
Open the AltHistory thread you want to read and copy its URL from your browser’s address bar. AltHistory story links follow this general pattern:
https://althistory.com/threads/some-story-name.123456/Copy the main thread URL instead of a link to an individual post. WP Downloader downloads whole AltHistory stories, not single chapters or lists.
AltHistory stories are forum threads. WP Downloader gathers the threadmarked chapters and combines them into one book, saving you from downloading each chapter separately.
Step 2: Download the story with WP Downloader
Open the AltHistory downloader and paste the story link into the box. WP Downloader detects the site and prepares the threadmarked chapters as a book.
You do not need to sign in to AltHistory. Choose EPUB for KOReader, and select the image option if you want to include the story’s images. WP Downloader has two output formats:

Step 3: Copy the EPUB to your device
After the EPUB downloads, move it to the device where you use KOReader.
Kobo or PocketBook
Connect the ereader to your computer with USB. Copy the EPUB to the device as usual, then disconnect it safely.
You can copy the EPUB in its current format because KOReader opens it directly.
Android
Use your usual Android file-transfer method to copy the EPUB to your phone, tablet, or ereader. Save it somewhere that will be easy to find in KOReader’s file browser.
Jailbroken Kindle
If your Kindle has been jailbroken and KOReader is installed, copy the EPUB to the Kindle over USB. KOReader supports EPUB, so you do not need to convert the file to a Kindle format.

Step 4: Open the story in KOReader
Launch KOReader and use its file browser to find the EPUB. Select the file to open it.
The book contains the story’s threadmarked chapters in one file. Because the EPUB is stored on your device, you can read it offline after transferring it.

Getting newly posted chapters
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you have already downloaded. If the author posts more threadmarked chapters, return to the AltHistory downloader, paste the story link again, and download a new copy.
Copy the new EPUB to your device and open that version in KOReader.
