Read AltHistory Stories in Google Play Books

To read an AltHistory story in Google Play Books, download it as an EPUB or PDF with WP Downloader and upload the file to your Play Books library. You can then read it on the web, Android, iPhone, or iPad.

WP Downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything. It collects the threadmarked chapters from an AltHistory forum thread and puts them into one book.

Download the AltHistory story

Open the story on althistory.com and copy its thread URL. It should look similar to this:

Go to the AltHistory downloader, paste the URL into the box, and start the download. WP Downloader recognizes the site and collects the threadmarked chapters into a single file.

You do not need to sign in to AltHistory. WP Downloader downloads the whole story from this site. It cannot download individual chapters or lists.

Choose either format:

• EPUB is free for everyone and can be uploaded to Google Play Books.
• PDF can also be uploaded to Google Play Books, but creating one requires a free Discord sign-in.

You can choose whether to include the story’s images. WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.

Upload from a computer

After downloading the EPUB or PDF, upload it through the Google Play Books website.

1. Open Google Play Books in your computer’s web browser.
2. Sign in to the Google account you use for Play Books.
3. Choose the option to upload a file.
4. Select the EPUB or PDF from your computer or Google Drive.
5. Wait for Google Play Books to process the book.
6. Open the story from your Play Books library.

Very large files can reach Google’s upload size limit.

Upload from Android

You can also upload the EPUB or PDF with the Google Play Books Android app.

1. Download the AltHistory story and save the file on your Android device.
2. Open or locate the file on your device.
3. Choose Google Play Books to open or upload it.
4. Wait for Play Books to process the file.
5. Open the story from your Play Books library.

The buttons may vary by device. The EPUB or PDF needs to be sent to the Play Books app.

Read on iPhone or iPad

Upload the story to your Play Books library, then sign in to the Google Play Books app on your iPhone or iPad with the same Google account.

Once the upload is ready, find the story in your library and open it. The same uploaded book will also be available on the web and your other devices when you use that account.

Get new chapters

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already downloaded. When the AltHistory thread gets another threadmarked chapter, return to the AltHistory downloader and download the complete story again.

Upload the new file to Google Play Books separately. The newer copy will contain the additional chapters.

Does Google Play Books accept AltHistory stories?
