Listen to JoyRead Stories With Text-to-Speech
You can listen to a JoyRead story by downloading it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and opening the file in a reader that supports text-to-speech.
WP Downloader is a free web tool, with nothing to install. Once you have the EPUB, the listening steps depend on your device and reading app.
Download a JoyRead story as an EPUB
Copy the story’s web address from JoyRead. A story link looks like this:

- Open the JoyRead downloader.
- Paste the story link into the box.
- Choose EPUB as the output format.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the finished EPUB.
EPUB downloads are free for everyone. WP Downloader can also create a PDF with a free Discord sign-in, but the reading apps in this guide open EPUB files.
WP Downloader downloads the entire JoyRead story. It cannot download a single chapter or a list. If the author adds more chapters later, download the story again to make a new EPUB with the chapters then available. Existing EPUB files do not update automatically.
You do not need to sign in for public stories. Signing in with your JoyRead account can provide access to members-only stories and to paid or locked chapters your account can already read. WP Downloader does not bypass paywalls, locked chapters, or access restrictions.

Listen on an iPhone or iPad
Apple’s Speak Screen feature can read an EPUB in Apple Books.
In Settings, open Accessibility, then Spoken Content, and turn on Speak Screen. Open the downloaded EPUB in Apple Books. To start listening, swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen.
Speak Screen uses the text-to-speech voices installed on your device, so the narration will sound different depending on the available voice.
Listen on Android
Android has a built-in accessibility option, and several EPUB readers can read a book aloud.
Use Select to Speak
Open Settings, go to Accessibility, and turn on Select to Speak. Open the EPUB in a reading app, then tap the items you want Android to read.
Use Moon+ Reader
Moon+ Reader opens EPUB files and has a built-in text-to-speech mode. Open the JoyRead EPUB in Moon+ Reader and start the read-aloud feature.
Use @Voice Aloud Reader
@Voice Aloud Reader also reads EPUB files aloud. Open or import the downloaded EPUB, then use the app’s reading controls to listen.
These options use the text-to-speech voices installed on your Android device. How natural the narration sounds depends on those voices.
Listen on Windows, macOS, or Linux
Thorium Reader and calibre can read EPUB files aloud on a computer.
Thorium Reader
Thorium Reader is a free EPUB reader for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Open the downloaded JoyRead EPUB and use its read-aloud feature.
calibre
calibre is a free desktop program with an e-book viewer. Add or open the EPUB, launch it in the viewer, and select Read aloud.
Both programs use the text-to-speech voices installed on your computer, so the narration depends on the voices available there.
Keep the EPUB for offline listening
After downloading the EPUB and opening it in your chosen reading app, you can keep the file on your device for offline reading or listening.
You can also send JoyRead stories to Kindle or read JoyRead stories on Kobo.

Can WP Downloader turn a JoyRead story into an audiobook?
WP Downloader creates EPUB and PDF files. To hear a story aloud, open its EPUB in an app or device feature that supports text-to-speech.
Do I need a JoyRead account?
Public stories do not require an account. Signing in is optional and lets WP Downloader reach members-only stories your account can read.
Can WP Downloader include locked or paid chapters?
Only when your JoyRead account can already read them. WP Downloader does not bypass locked content or paywalls.
Why does the narration sound different between devices?
Read-aloud apps and accessibility features use the text-to-speech voices installed on the device. The available voices determine how the narration sounds.
Will my EPUB gain new chapters automatically?
No. WP Downloader cannot update an existing EPUB. Download the story again to create a new file with the latest chapters available to you.
