How to Save a Personal Copy of an AltHistory Story

Authors and websites can edit, unpublish or delete stories. WP Downloader lets you keep a personal EPUB copy of an AltHistory story you want to revisit. The file preserves the story as it appeared when you downloaded it, so you can still read your copy if the online version changes or disappears.

Download an AltHistory story with WP Downloader

WP Downloader is a free web tool, with nothing to install. Open the AltHistory downloader and paste the story’s thread URL into the box.

An AltHistory story link usually looks like this:

WP Downloader recognizes the site and collects the threadmarked chapters from the forum thread into one book. For AltHistory, it downloads the whole story. It cannot download a single chapter or a list of stories.

To save a copy:

1. Copy the URL of the AltHistory story thread.
2. Open the AltHistory downloader.
3. Paste the URL into the download box.
4. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
5. Download the story as an EPUB.

EPUB downloads are free for everyone. You can also make a PDF by signing in with a free Discord account. You do not need an AltHistory account.

Treat the EPUB as a dated copy

A downloaded EPUB is not connected to the original thread. If the author edits a chapter or adds new threadmarked chapters, the file will not update by itself.

Download the story again whenever you want the latest version. WP Downloader creates a new copy each time instead of adding chapters to an existing EPUB. If you want to preserve an earlier version, keep the old file and give each copy a clear name so you can tell them apart.

Keep the copy on your phone

Once you have downloaded the EPUB to your phone, move it somewhere you can easily find it and open it with an app that supports EPUB files.

A filename that includes the story’s name will be easier to recognize later. You can also keep another personal copy on a different device.

If you download a PDF, store it with your other personal files and open it in a PDF reader.

Organize the story with calibre

Calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS and Linux. You can use it to store and manage the EPUB files you download.

To add your AltHistory story:

1. Open calibre.
2. Select Add books.
3. Choose the EPUB you downloaded from WP Downloader.
4. Check the book’s title, author, cover and other metadata.
5. Edit the metadata or cover if needed.

You can read the story on your computer with calibre’s e-book viewer. The viewer also has a Read aloud feature.

Move the story to an e-reader

Calibre can send books to a connected e-reader over USB. Add the AltHistory EPUB to your calibre library, connect the device and transfer the book with calibre.

You can also use calibre to convert the EPUB to AZW3, MOBI or PDF if your reading setup needs one of those formats. WP Downloader produces EPUB and PDF files. It does not produce MOBI, AZW3 or TXT files.
