How to track MediaMiner stories on Goodreads or The StoryGraph
Many MediaMiner stories are missing from Goodreads and The StoryGraph. Download the story with WP Downloader, then search for its title and author on the service you use. If you cannot find it, you may be able to add it to Goodreads or keep a private reading list in calibre.
Download the MediaMiner story
Find the story on mediaminer.org. Its address should look like this:
https://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/s/category-name/story-title/123456 Then:
- Open the MediaMiner downloader.
- Paste the story link into the box.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the finished EPUB.
WP Downloader is a free browser-based tool, so there is nothing to install. You do not need a MediaMiner account. It downloads the complete story, not individual chapters or lists. Anyone can download an EPUB, while PDF downloads require a free Discord sign-in.
When the author adds chapters, download the story again to get the latest version. WP Downloader cannot update an existing EPUB. For a fuller walkthrough, see the MediaMiner download guide.
MediaMiner support was ported from FanFicFare, the open-source fanfiction downloader.
Keep the EPUB on your reading device
Save the EPUB somewhere you can find it later. You will read the downloaded file, while Goodreads or The StoryGraph keeps a record of your reading. Tracking a story on either service does not upload the EPUB.
For help moving the file to an e-reader, see:
You can also manage the EPUB with calibre on Windows, macOS, or Linux. Use Add books to place it in your calibre library. You can then edit its metadata and cover, open it in calibre’s e-book viewer, or transfer it to an e-reader connected by USB. The viewer includes a Read aloud feature.
Track the story on Goodreads
Search Goodreads for the story title and author before adding an entry. Most fanfiction and web serials are absent from the Goodreads database, but the story may already be listed under a slightly different name.
If you find the correct entry, use it to record your reading.
If the story is missing, eligible Goodreads members can add it at goodreads.com/book/new. Your account needs a verified email address and cannot be brand new. At minimum, you must enter the title and author.
Copy the correct title and author from MediaMiner. Goodreads librarians handle later edits and merge duplicate entries, so check the search results carefully before adding another listing.
Check The StoryGraph
Search The StoryGraph for the title and author. Its database may contain the story, although fanfiction and web serials are often missing from book databases.
The StoryGraph has no clear official instructions for adding works that are not books. If the story is absent, check its current help pages for guidance. Unofficial instructions for creating book entries may not apply.
If you cannot add the story through a supported method, keep the EPUB in calibre and use its library as a personal reading list.
Keep a private reading list in calibre
Calibre gives you an organized record without relying on a public book database. After adding the EPUB, edit its metadata so you can search by title or author. You can also replace the cover if needed.
Calibre can convert an EPUB to AZW3, MOBI, or PDF when a device or app requires another format. WP Downloader does not produce MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.
Keeping your MediaMiner downloads in one calibre library makes them easier to find, read on your computer, and transfer to an e-reader connected by USB.
