How to Send Royal Road Stories to Kindle
A Kindle is one of the most comfortable ways to get through a long Royal Road serial: no glare, weeks of battery, and no notifications pulling you away mid-arc. You can get any public fiction onto your Kindle in two steps - download it as EPUB, then send it to Amazon.
What you need
- The URL of the Royal Road fiction
- A Kindle e-reader, or the Kindle app on your phone or tablet
- Your Amazon account
You don’t need a Royal Road account.
Step 1: Download the fiction as EPUB
- Copy the fiction’s URL from Royal Road.
- Open the Royal Road Downloader and paste it.
- Leave EPUB selected - it’s free and needs no sign-in.
- Click Download and save the file.
Amazon converts EPUB to Kindle’s own format automatically, so EPUB is the right choice even though Kindles don’t open EPUB files directly. More detail on this step is in How to Download a Royal Road Story.
Step 2: Send the EPUB to your Kindle
Option A - Send to Kindle on the web (easiest for long fictions)
- Go to Amazon’s Send to Kindle page and sign in.
- Drag the EPUB onto the page and click Send.
Option B - Email
- Find your Kindle’s email address: Amazon → Manage Your Content and Devices → Preferences → Personal Document Settings. It ends in
@kindle.com. - Make sure the address you’ll send from is in the Approved Personal Document E-mail List on the same page.
- Email the EPUB as an attachment to your Kindle address. The subject doesn’t matter.
Option C - Send to Kindle app Install Amazon’s Send to Kindle app on Windows or Mac, drag the EPUB onto it, choose your device and send.
The book appears in your Kindle library within a few minutes, with Royal Road’s cover, title and author, and a table of contents listing every chapter.
Tips for Royal Road fictions
- Very long fictions: Royal Road serials can run to thousands of pages. Email attachments are limited to 50 MB, so if a file is too big to email - usually only with Include Images on - use the web page or the desktop app instead, or download again with images off.
- New chapters: download the fiction again and send the new file. It will show up as a separate book; open it and use the table of contents to jump to where you left off.
- Author’s notes come through at the start and end of chapters, as on the site.
Troubleshooting
The email never arrives - the sending address probably isn’t on your Approved Personal Document E-mail List. Add it and send again.
The document is rejected - check it’s the .epub file and under the email size limit, or use the web upload instead.
It doesn’t appear on the Kindle - make sure the Kindle is online, then sync it from the settings menu.
