How to read StoryRoom stories offline on a flight

Download the StoryRoom story before you leave. Once the EPUB or PDF is on your device, you can open it without an internet connection.

Download the story before your flight

Complete these steps while you have a reliable connection:

1. Open the StoryRoom Downloader.
2. Copy the StoryRoom story URL from storyroom.com or finestories.com. A StoryRoom link looks like this:

3. Paste the link into WP Downloader.
4. Sign in with an account on the StoryRoom site when prompted. StoryRoom downloads require an account.
5. Choose EPUB or PDF. EPUB is free for everyone, while PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.
6. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
7. Download the finished file to the device you will use on the flight.

WP Downloader is a free web tool, and there is nothing to install. It downloads the whole StoryRoom story, not an individual chapter or a list. It can only download content that your StoryRoom account is allowed to read. It does not bypass locked content or access restrictions.

Choose a format and reading app

The right format depends on where you plan to read.

Phone or tablet

Choose EPUB if you have an app that opens EPUB books. Choose PDF if you prefer a PDF reader.

Before leaving, open the downloaded file in your chosen app and check that the story appears. Both the file and a compatible reading app must be on the device before you lose your connection.

Kindle app or Kindle e-reader

Download the EPUB or PDF, then use Amazon’s Send to Kindle while you are still online. Amazon accepts EPUB and PDF files through:

• Your Kindle’s Send-to-Kindle email address
• The Send to Kindle app
• Send to Kindle on the web

Amazon converts the EPUB and adds the book to your Kindle library. It can then appear on Kindle e-readers and in the Kindle app. Delivery requires an internet connection, so send the file before the flight.

When sending the file by email, use an approved sender address for your Kindle account. WP Downloader does not create MOBI files, and Send to Kindle no longer accepts MOBI.

Kobo

Download the StoryRoom story as an EPUB before your trip, then prepare it for the Kobo device or app you plan to use. Follow the StoryRoom Kobo guide while you still have internet access.

Test the book in airplane mode

Test the book before the flight:

1. Finish downloading or delivering the book.
2. Open it in your reading app.
3. Turn on airplane mode.
4. Close the story and open it again.
5. Check a few parts of the book.

If the file opens again in airplane mode, it is available offline. If it does not, reconnect and check that the file was downloaded to the device rather than only added to an app or library.

For Kindle, wait for the book to appear and open it once before testing. Sending the file and downloading it to the Kindle are separate steps. Complete both before the flight.

Download a new copy after updates

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already downloaded. If the StoryRoom story gains more chapters before your trip, download the whole story again and put the new file on your device.

Test the replacement in airplane mode to make sure you are opening the updated copy and that it is available offline.

Can I read a downloaded StoryRoom story without Wi-Fi?

Yes. Once the EPUB or PDF is saved on your device and opens in a compatible app, you can read it without an internet connection.

Do I need a StoryRoom account?

Yes. You must sign in with an account on the StoryRoom site to download a StoryRoom story through WP Downloader.

Should I choose EPUB or PDF for a flight?

Choose EPUB for an ebook reading app or for sending to Kindle. Choose PDF if you prefer a PDF reader. Test your chosen format in airplane mode before leaving.

Can I send the story to Kindle after takeoff?

Send to Kindle requires an internet connection to deliver the book. Send it before the flight, wait for it to appear on your Kindle or in the Kindle app, and open it once before switching to airplane mode.

Can WP Downloader download one StoryRoom chapter?

No. WP Downloader downloads whole StoryRoom stories only. It does not download individual chapters or lists from StoryRoom.
