How to Read Kakuyomu Stories Offline on a Flight

Download your Kakuyomu story as an EPUB or PDF before the flight. Once the file is saved on your phone, tablet, Kindle, or Kobo, you can open it without an internet connection.

Complete the download and any transfer to your reading device while you are still online.

Download the Kakuyomu story before your flight

WP Downloader is a free web tool with nothing to install. You do not need to sign in to Kakuyomu.

1. Open the Kakuyomu Downloader while you have an internet connection.
2. Copy the Kakuyomu story URL from your browser. It should look like this:

3. Paste the link into WP Downloader.
4. Choose EPUB or PDF. EPUB is free for everyone, while PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.
5. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
6. Download the finished file to your device.

WP Downloader downloads the complete Kakuyomu story. It cannot download individual chapters or lists from Kakuyomu.

Which format should you choose?

Choose EPUB for an EPUB-compatible app, a compatible e-reader such as a Kobo, or a Kindle after using Send to Kindle.

Choose PDF if you prefer a fixed page layout or already use a PDF reader. PDF downloads require a free Discord sign-in.

WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files. You do not need MOBI for Kindle delivery. Amazon’s Send to Kindle accepts EPUB and PDF files but no longer accepts MOBI.

Read on a phone or tablet

Download the EPUB or PDF directly to the phone or tablet you plan to carry.

Before leaving:

1. Check that the file has finished downloading.
2. Open it in an app that supports the file format.
3. Turn on airplane mode.
4. Open the story again and move through a few pages.

This checks that the app is opening the saved file instead of loading the Kakuyomu website. If it works in airplane mode, it is ready for the flight.

Use an EPUB reader for an EPUB file and a PDF reader for a PDF. An app you already know will be easier to use after takeoff.

Read on a Kindle

Amazon’s Send to Kindle accepts EPUB and PDF files. Amazon converts an EPUB and adds the book to your Kindle library, where it can appear on Kindle e-readers and in the Kindle app.

You can deliver the file by email to your Kindle’s Send-to-Kindle address, through the Send to Kindle app, or on the Send to Kindle website. When using email, you must send the file from an address on your approved sender list.

Delivery needs an internet connection, so send the book before the flight. Open or download it on your Kindle or in the Kindle app while you still have Wi-Fi. Then turn on airplane mode and check that the book opens.

Read on a Kobo

Download the Kakuyomu story as an EPUB and put it on your Kobo before leaving. Open the book once, turn off the connection, and check that its chapters are available.

Before-takeoff checklist

Before you leave home or lose airport Wi-Fi, check that:

• The complete EPUB or PDF is saved.
• The file opens in your reading app or on your device.
• Any Kindle transfer has finished and the book appears in your library.
• The story still opens in airplane mode.
• You selected the image option during download if you want the story’s images in the book.

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an existing EPUB. If Kakuyomu adds chapters later, download the story again to get the updated version.
