How to Put an Inkitt Story on Kindle with Calibre
To put an Inkitt story on a Kindle without Amazon’s Send to Kindle service, download the whole story as an EPUB with WP Downloader. You can then use calibre to convert it to AZW3 and copy it to your Kindle over USB.
What you need
Have these ready:
- The Inkitt story URL
- Your Inkitt email address and password
- A Windows, macOS, or Linux computer
- calibre, a free e-book manager
- A USB cable that connects your Kindle to the computer
WP Downloader is a free web tool and does not need to be installed. calibre manages the book library, converts the file, and transfers it to your Kindle.
Step 1: Copy the Inkitt story link
Open the story on inkitt.com and copy the URL from your browser’s address bar. An Inkitt story URL looks like this:

Step 2: Download the story with WP Downloader
Open the Inkitt downloader and paste the story URL into the box.
Sign in with your Inkitt email address and password. WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested. It can download only the content your account is allowed to read and does not bypass locked chapters, paywalls, or age restrictions.
Select EPUB as the output format. EPUB is free for everyone and provides the source file that calibre will convert. You can also choose whether to include the story’s images.

WP Downloader does not create AZW3 or MOBI files. You will use calibre to convert the EPUB in the next steps.
Step 3: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre and select “Add books.” Find the EPUB from WP Downloader and add it to your calibre library.
The story will appear in your library. You can edit its metadata or cover before transferring it, although this is optional.
You can also open the EPUB in calibre’s e-book viewer to check it before conversion or transfer. The viewer includes a “Read aloud” feature.
Step 4: Convert the EPUB to AZW3
Select the Inkitt story in your calibre library and choose “Convert books.” Set AZW3 as the output format and start the conversion.
AZW3 is a Kindle format that you can copy to the device over USB. calibre can also convert books to formats such as MOBI and PDF, but this guide uses AZW3.
Step 5: Connect your Kindle by USB
Connect the Kindle e-reader to your computer with its USB cable. After calibre detects it, select the converted story and choose “Send to device.”
calibre will copy the book to the Kindle over USB. When the transfer finishes, safely disconnect the Kindle and look for the story in its library.
The file travels directly from your computer to the Kindle without going through Amazon’s Send to Kindle service.
USB transfer and Send to Kindle
To transfer the story with calibre and USB:
- Download the EPUB from WP Downloader.
- Add it to calibre.
- Convert it to AZW3.
- Send it to the connected Kindle.

Amazon’s Send to Kindle service no longer accepts MOBI files. Kindle e-readers can still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB, so this restriction does not apply to USB transfers.
Updating a story with new chapters
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. If the Inkitt author publishes more chapters, download the whole story again.
Add the new EPUB to calibre, convert it, and send the updated copy to your Kindle. Check your calibre and Kindle libraries before transferring it if you do not want to keep both editions.

Can WP Downloader make an AZW3 file?
No. WP Downloader provides EPUB for free and PDF with a free Discord sign-in. It does not output AZW3, MOBI, or TXT. Use calibre to convert the EPUB to AZW3.
Do I need an Inkitt account?
Yes. You must sign in with your Inkitt email address and password. WP Downloader can download only the stories and chapters that your account is allowed to read.
Can I download one Inkitt chapter?
No. WP Downloader downloads whole Inkitt stories, not individual chapters.
Does Kindle still support MOBI over USB?
Yes. Kindle e-readers still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB. Only Amazon’s Send to Kindle service stopped accepting MOBI.
Can I use the downloaded story on another e-reader?
