How to listen to Ficbook stories with text-to-speech
To listen to a Ficbook story, download it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and open the file in an app with text-to-speech. You can do this on an iPhone, iPad, Android device, Windows PC, Mac, or Linux computer.
Download the Ficbook story as an EPUB
WP Downloader is a free web tool and does not require installation or a Ficbook account.
- Open the story on ficbook.net and copy its address. A Ficbook story link looks like this:

Paste the story link into the box. WP Downloader will recognize it as a Ficbook link.
Choose EPUB and download the story. EPUB downloads are free for everyone, and you can choose whether to include the story’s images.
WP Downloader downloads the complete story. It does not download individual Ficbook chapters or lists. If the author adds chapters later, download the story again to make a new EPUB with the latest available version. An existing EPUB will not update automatically.
You can also download a PDF after signing in with Discord for free. EPUB is the better choice for this guide because the reading apps below can open it. WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.

Listen on an iPhone or iPad
Apple Books opens EPUB files, and the built-in Speak Screen feature can read them aloud.
Turn on Speak Screen
- Open Settings.
- Select Accessibility.
- Select Spoken Content.
- Turn on Speak Screen.
Open the downloaded EPUB in Apple Books and find the part you want to hear. Swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen to start Speak Screen.
Listen on an Android phone or tablet
Android users can listen with Select to Speak or an EPUB reading app.
Use Select to Speak
Open Settings, select Accessibility, and turn on Select to Speak. Open the Ficbook story, start Select to Speak, and tap the items you want Android to read.
Use Moon+ Reader
Moon+ Reader opens EPUB files and has a built-in text-to-speech mode. Open the downloaded Ficbook EPUB and select the read-aloud option.
Use @Voice Aloud Reader
@Voice Aloud Reader can also read EPUB files aloud. Open the downloaded file in the app to listen using your device’s text-to-speech voices.
Listen on Windows, macOS, or Linux
Thorium Reader and calibre both open EPUB files and can read them aloud.
Use Thorium Reader
Thorium Reader is free and available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Open the Ficbook EPUB in Thorium Reader and use its read-aloud feature.
Use calibre
calibre is a free desktop program with an e-book viewer. Add or open the EPUB, launch the e-book viewer, and select Read aloud.
What affects the narration?
Speak Screen, Select to Speak, Moon+ Reader, @Voice Aloud Reader, Thorium Reader, and calibre use the text-to-speech voices installed on your device. Ficbook stories are in Russian, so the narration will depend on the Russian voices available on your phone, tablet, or computer.
The EPUB contains text rather than a prerecorded audiobook. The app or device reads that text aloud with an installed voice.
