How to read a Ficbook story on a Kobo e-reader
Kobo e-readers open EPUB files without conversion. Download the complete Ficbook story as an EPUB with WP Downloader, then copy it to your Kobo by USB. Some Kobo models can also receive the file through Dropbox or Google Drive.
Download a Ficbook story as an EPUB
WP Downloader is a free web tool with nothing to install. Ficbook story links usually look like this:
https://ficbook.net/readfic/12345 To download a story:
- Open the Ficbook downloader.
- Paste the Ficbook story link into the box.
- Wait while WP Downloader detects the site and prepares the story.
- Choose EPUB as the output format.
- Turn on the image option if you want the story’s images included.
- Download the finished EPUB.
EPUB downloads are free for everyone, and Ficbook does not require a sign-in. WP Downloader downloads complete Ficbook stories, not individual chapters or lists. Ficbook stories are in Russian, and the EPUB can be read offline.
Ficbook support, along with support for the other fiction archives available through WP Downloader, was ported from the open-source fanfiction downloader FanFicFare.
See how to download Ficbook stories for a more detailed walkthrough.
Transfer the EPUB by USB
- Connect your Kobo e-reader to your computer with a USB cable.
- Wait for the Kobo to appear as a drive on the computer.
- Find the EPUB you downloaded from WP Downloader.
- Copy the EPUB onto the Kobo drive.
- Eject the Kobo safely from the computer.
- Disconnect the cable.
The Ficbook story will appear in your Kobo library. You can open it like any other book and read it without an internet connection.
Add the story through Dropbox
Kobo can add non-protected EPUB and PDF files through Dropbox when it is running software version 4.18 or later. Dropbox support is available on these models:
- Kobo Forma
- Kobo Sage
- Kobo Elipsa
- Kobo Elipsa 2E
- Kobo Libra Colour
Link your Dropbox account from the e-reader, put the EPUB in the linked cloud folder, and sync your Kobo. The story will appear in the library on that device.
Books added through Dropbox appear only on the Kobo where they were added.
Add the story through Google Drive
Google Drive requires Kobo software version 4.37 or later and is available on the same models:
- Kobo Forma
- Kobo Sage
- Kobo Elipsa
- Kobo Elipsa 2E
- Kobo Libra Colour
To link Google Drive:
- Select More on the Kobo Home screen.
- Open My Google Drive.
- Select Get Started.
- Enter the displayed code on the Kobo website.
- Put the downloaded EPUB in the linked Google Drive folder.
- Sync the e-reader.
The Ficbook story will appear on the Kobo after it syncs. Books added through Google Drive appear only on the device where they were added.
Download an updated copy
WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB already stored on your Kobo. If the Ficbook author publishes more chapters, download the complete story again.
Transfer the new EPUB by USB, Dropbox, or Google Drive. It will contain the version of the story available when you downloaded it.
The guide to reading Ficbook stories offline covers other ways to keep a story available without an internet connection.
