Do Sufficient Velocity Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?
Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. PDFs can count toward your Reading Goal when Include PDFs is turned on. Apple does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time, so you will need to test the story after adding it to Apple Books.
Download the Sufficient Velocity story
Sufficient Velocity stories are English-language forum threads. A story address usually looks like this:
https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/some-story-name.123456/ Open the Sufficient Velocity downloader and paste the story link into the box. WP Downloader detects the site and collects the threadmarked chapters into one book.
Choose a format:
- EPUB is free for everyone.
- PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.
- You can choose whether to include the story’s images.
WP Downloader downloads the whole story from Sufficient Velocity. It does not download individual chapters or lists. If the author adds chapters later, download the story again. WP Downloader cannot update an existing EPUB.
Public stories do not require an account. You can sign in with your Sufficient Velocity account to reach members-only stories that the account can already read. WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested and does not bypass restricted content.

Add the story to Apple Books
After downloading the EPUB or PDF, import it into Apple Books on the device you use for reading.
On iPhone or iPad
- Find the file in the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
- Open the sharing menu.
- Tap Share, then Books.
The story will appear in your Apple Books Library.
On Mac
Open the Books app and drag the EPUB into it. You can also choose Add to Library from the File menu.
The imported story will appear in your Library.
How Apple Books Reading Goals work
Reading Goals track how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year. The default daily goal is five minutes.
On an iPhone or iPad, change the daily goal from the Reading Now tab. On a Mac, use Home.
Adding a story to your Library does not by itself show whether Apple Books will record the time you spend reading it.
Check whether your imported EPUB counts
Apple’s documentation does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. Test the file on your device:
- Open Apple Books and note today’s reading time.
- Open the imported Sufficient Velocity EPUB.
- Read for a minute or two.
- Return to Reading Now on iPhone or iPad, or Home on Mac.
- Check whether today’s reading time has increased.
If the time increases, Apple Books is counting the imported EPUB on your device. If it does not, the file may not be contributing to the goal.
You can repeat this check after an app or operating system change.
Make a downloaded PDF count
Apple Books has a separate setting for PDF tracking. If you downloaded the story as a PDF, turn on Include PDFs.
On current versions of iOS, open Settings, select Apps, choose Books, and turn on Include PDFs. On older versions, choose Books directly in Settings.
Then open the PDF in Apple Books, read for a minute or two, and check the daily total again.
You can also send Sufficient Velocity stories to Kindle or read Sufficient Velocity stories on Kobo.
