Do Spuffy Realm Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files downloaded from The Spuffy Realm. PDFs count toward Reading Goals when Include PDFs is enabled. Apple does not say whether EPUBs you import yourself count toward daily reading time, so you will need to check the imported story in your Books app.

Download a story with WP Downloader

WP Downloader is a free web tool with nothing to install. It downloads complete stories from The Spuffy Realm at spikeluver.com, and you do not need to sign in.

1. Open The Spuffy Realm downloader.
2. Paste the story’s main URL into the box.
3. Wait for WP Downloader to detect the site.
4. Choose EPUB, which is free for everyone, or PDF, which requires a free Discord sign-in.
5. Turn on the image option if you want the story’s images included.
6. Save the file to your device.

For The Spuffy Realm, WP Downloader downloads the whole story. It does not download individual chapters or lists. If the author adds a chapter later, download the story again. WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB you already have.

Add the story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. An imported story appears in your Library.

On iPhone or iPad

After downloading the file:

1. Open it from the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
2. Tap Share.
3. Choose Books.

Apple Books will add the story to your Library, where you can open it whenever you want to read.

On Mac

Open the Books app and drag the downloaded EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the file.

The story will appear in your Books Library.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Reading Goals track how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year. The default daily goal is five minutes.

You can change the daily goal from the Reading Now tab on an iPhone or iPad. On a Mac, change it from Home.

Adding a story to your Library does not confirm that Apple Books is counting the time you spend reading it.

Check whether an imported EPUB counts

Apple’s documentation does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. Check the EPUB on your device before relying on it for Reading Goal progress:

1. Note today’s current reading time.
2. Open the imported Spuffy Realm EPUB in Apple Books.
3. Read for a minute or two.
4. Return to your Reading Goal and see whether today’s reading time increased.

If the total rises, Apple Books is counting the time spent reading that EPUB on your device. If it stays the same, the story will remain in your Library, but its reading time is not being added to your goal.

Make a PDF count toward your reading goal

PDFs count toward Reading Goals only when Include PDFs is turned on.

On current iOS versions, open Settings, choose Apps, then Books, and enable Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings, then Books.

Once the setting is on, open the downloaded PDF in Apple Books and read it there. You can confirm that it counts by noting today’s total before you read and checking it again afterward.

Include PDFs applies only to PDFs. It does not confirm whether an imported EPUB counts, so check EPUB reading time separately.

Choose between EPUB and PDF

Apple Books opens both formats. EPUB is free from WP Downloader and does not require a sign-in. PDF requires a free Discord sign-in, and Include PDFs must be enabled for its reading time to count.

If you use Reading Goals, try the EPUB first and see whether your daily minutes increase. Choose PDF with Include PDFs enabled if you want to use Apple’s documented setting for PDF reading.
