Do FanficAuthors Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?

Apple Books can open a FanficAuthors story after you download it, but Apple does not document whether imported EPUB files add to your daily reading time. To check, import the story, read for a minute or two, and see whether today’s total increases. A PDF counts only if Apple Books is set to include PDFs.

Download a FanficAuthors story with WP Downloader

WP Downloader is a free web tool, and you do not need to install anything. It downloads complete FanficAuthors stories as EPUB or PDF files.

2. Copy the story address from your browser. It should look similar to this:

EPUB is free for everyone. PDF downloads require a free Discord sign-in. WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.

Add the story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Imported stories appear in your Library.

On iPhone or iPad

After downloading the file:

1. Open it from the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
2. Tap Share.
3. Choose Books.
4. Open Apple Books and find the story in your Library.

If Books does not appear in the Share menu right away, check the other sharing options.

On Mac

Open the Books app and drag the downloaded EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the file.

When the import is complete, open the story from your Library and start reading.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Apple Books tracks how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year.

The daily goal is five minutes by default. You can change it from the Reading Now tab on an iPhone or iPad, or from Home on a Mac.

Apple provides a setting that allows PDFs to count toward Reading Goals. Its documentation does not say whether EPUB files imported from outside the Books store count toward daily reading time. A downloaded FanficAuthors EPUB may open normally without counting, so check it on your device.

Check whether your imported EPUB counts

Test the file with a short reading session:

1. Check today’s reading time in Apple Books.
2. Open the imported FanficAuthors EPUB.
3. Read normally for one or two minutes.
4. Return to your Reading Goal.
5. Check whether today’s reading time has increased.

Do not change your goal or read another book during the test, since either could make the result harder to identify.

If the time increases, Apple Books is counting the imported EPUB on your device. If it does not, you can still read the story in Apple Books, but the file is not advancing your daily goal.

Make a PDF count toward your goal

PDFs count only when Include PDFs is enabled.

On current iOS versions, open Settings, choose Apps, then Books, and turn on Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings, choose Books, and enable Include PDFs there.

Open the downloaded PDF in Apple Books and repeat the short reading test to check that it counts on your device.
