Track the story on Goodreads

Most fanfiction and web serials are missing from the Goodreads database, so search by title and author first.

If you find the right work, use its existing record. Check both the title and author to avoid choosing a different work with a similar name.

If the story is missing, an eligible Goodreads account can add it at goodreads.com/book/new. The account must have a verified email and cannot be brand new. You need at least the title and author.

Refer to the story page and downloaded file when entering the details. Goodreads librarians handle edits and merge duplicate records, so check the database carefully before adding a new one.

The EPUB and Goodreads record have different purposes. You read the EPUB, while the Goodreads record tracks the work.

On a phone or tablet

Download the EPUB through WP Downloader in your mobile browser. Keep the story page open so you can check its title and author. Search for the work in the Goodreads app or website and use an existing record if you find one.

If the work is missing, you will need an eligible Goodreads account to add it through the manual addition page.

On a computer

Download the EPUB from the MuggleNet downloader, then search Goodreads in another browser tab. If the work is missing and your account is eligible, go to goodreads.com/book/new and enter at least the title and author.

Search for the story on The StoryGraph

Search The StoryGraph by the story’s title and author. The work may be missing from its database, especially if it is fanfiction rather than a published book.

The StoryGraph does not publish clear official instructions for adding works that are not books. If your search comes up empty, check its current help pages instead of relying on unofficial instructions.

Keep a personal reading list in calibre

calibre is another option when Goodreads and The StoryGraph do not have the story. It is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and it keeps the EPUB itself in your library.

After downloading the story:

1. Open calibre and choose Add books.
2. Select the EPUB from WP Downloader.
3. Review or edit the title, author, metadata, and cover.
4. Read the story in calibre’s e-book viewer or send it to a connected e-reader over USB.

The viewer has a Read aloud feature. calibre can also convert an EPUB to AZW3, MOBI, or PDF. WP Downloader does not produce AZW3, MOBI, or TXT files.

When the author posts new chapters, download the complete story again. WP Downloader cannot update an existing EPUB.
