How to Read Walking the Plank Stories on Android
WP Downloader lets you save a Walking the Plank story as an EPUB or PDF, which you can then open on an Android phone or tablet. The tool is free, runs in your browser, and does not require an installation.
Download a Walking the Plank story
Find the story on walkingtheplank.org. Its URL should look like this:
http://www.walkingtheplank.org/archive/viewstory.php?sid=1234 Copy the story URL and open the Walking the Plank downloader. Paste the link into the box, and WP Downloader will identify the story.
Choose a format:
- EPUB is free for everyone and works well for reading on Android.
- PDF requires a free Discord sign-in and keeps a fixed page layout.
You can also choose to include the story’s images.
WP Downloader saves the complete story. It cannot download a single chapter or a story list from Walking the Plank. You do not need a Walking the Plank account, and the site’s stories are in English.
The tool only downloads content that is already available to read. Its support for Walking the Plank and the other fiction archives on the supported sites page was ported from FanFicFare, the open-source fanfiction downloader.
See the guide to downloading Walking the Plank stories for more details.
Open the EPUB on Android
After downloading the EPUB, find it in your phone or tablet’s downloaded files and open it in an EPUB reader.
Use Google Play Books
Google Play Books accepts DRM-free EPUB and PDF files. You can read uploaded books on Android, iPhone, iPad, or the web.
Upload the story through the Google Play Books Android app. You can also visit the Play Books website on a computer and upload it from your computer or Google Drive. Then open Google Play Books on your Android device to read it.
Google limits the size of uploaded files. If a large book cannot be uploaded, open the EPUB directly in another Android reader.
Use Moon+ Reader
Moon+ Reader opens EPUB files on Android. Find the downloaded story on your device, then open or import it into the app.
Moon+ Reader also has a built-in text-to-speech mode for listening to the story.
Open the PDF on Android
Find the downloaded PDF in your files and open it in an app that supports PDFs. Google Play Books can store and open DRM-free PDF files.
PDFs use a fixed page layout, which may be less comfortable on a small screen. If so, download the story again as an EPUB and open it in Google Play Books or Moon+ Reader.
Listen with text-to-speech
Android’s Select to Speak accessibility feature can read items on the screen aloud. Turn it on under Settings, then Accessibility, and tap an item to hear it.
Moon+ Reader has a built-in text-to-speech mode for EPUB files. @Voice Aloud Reader can also read EPUB files aloud on Android.
These options use the text-to-speech voices installed on your device, so the sound of the narration depends on the available voices.
Get new chapters later
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already saved. If the author publishes more chapters, return to the Walking the Plank downloader, paste the story link again, and download a new copy of the complete story.
