Read a SquidgeWorld Story in Google Play Books
To read a SquidgeWorld Archive story in Google Play Books, download it with WP Downloader and upload the EPUB or PDF to your Play Books library. WP Downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything.
Download the SquidgeWorld story
Open the story on squidgeworld.org and copy its URL. A SquidgeWorld Archive story link looks like this:
https://squidgeworld.org/works/123456 Open the SquidgeWorld story downloader, paste the link into the box, and let WP Downloader detect the site. For SquidgeWorld Archive, WP Downloader downloads the whole story. It does not download individual chapters or lists.
Choose a format:
- EPUB is free for everyone.
- Google Play Books also supports PDF, but creating one with WP Downloader requires a free Discord sign-in.
- Turn on the image option if you want to include the story’s images.
Save the finished file somewhere easy to find, such as your downloads folder or Google Drive.
Some SquidgeWorld stories are available only to signed-in members. You can sign in with your SquidgeWorld Archive account to download members-only stories that the account can read. WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested.
WP Downloader can only download content your account is already allowed to read. It does not bypass paywalls, locked chapters, age restrictions, or account requirements.
The SquidgeWorld download guide covers the download process in more detail.
Upload the story from a computer
Google Play Books accepts DRM-free EPUB and PDF files. To add the story from a computer:
- Open the Google Play Books website and sign in to the Google account you use for reading.
- Start an upload from your computer or choose the file from Google Drive.
- Select the EPUB or PDF created by WP Downloader.
- Wait for Google Play Books to process the file.
- Open the story from your Play Books library.
You can then read the story on the Play Books website or in the mobile app with the same Google account.
If the upload fails, check the file size. Very large stories can reach Google’s upload limit.
Add the story on Android
The Google Play Books Android app can upload supported files directly. Download the story as an EPUB or PDF, save it on your Android device, and upload it with the Play Books app.
Make sure the app is signed in to the Google account where you want to keep the story. If you downloaded the file on a computer, you can upload it through the Play Books website and then open the Android app.
Read the story on iPhone or iPad
For an iPhone or iPad, upload the EPUB or PDF through the Google Play Books website. You can choose the file from your computer or Google Drive.
Open the Google Play Books app on your iPhone or iPad and sign in with the same Google account. The SquidgeWorld story will appear in that account’s library once Google Play Books has processed it.
Update a story with new chapters
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already downloaded. When the author updates the story, return to the SquidgeWorld downloader and download the whole story again.
Upload the new file to Google Play Books. It will be a separate file, not an automatic update to the earlier EPUB.
For another reading device, you can send a SquidgeWorld story to Kindle or read a SquidgeWorld story on Kobo.
