How to read SciFiStories stories on a flight without Wi-Fi

Download your SciFiStories story before the flight while you still have internet access. Once the EPUB or PDF is saved on your device, you can open it in airplane mode without Wi-Fi.

Download the story before your flight

Use the free SciFiStories downloader while you are online. WP Downloader works in your browser, with nothing to install.

1. Open the SciFiStories story you want to read.
2. Copy its URL. It should look like this:

https://scifistories.com/s/1234/story-title

3. Paste the link into WP Downloader on the home page or the SciFiStories downloader page.
4. Sign in with your SciFiStories account.
5. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
6. Download the story as an EPUB. To download a PDF, sign in with a free Discord account.

WP Downloader downloads the whole story. It cannot download a single chapter or a story list from SciFiStories. Your SciFiStories credentials are used only to fetch the story you requested, and the tool can download only material your account is allowed to read.

Choose a format and reading app

Your reading device will help you decide which format to download.

Phone or tablet

Choose EPUB if you have an EPUB reader on your phone or tablet. Download the file to the device, then open it in the app before your flight.

Choose PDF if you prefer a PDF reader. PDF downloads require a free Discord sign-in. Open the file before you leave so you know where it is stored and which app will open it.

Make sure the EPUB or PDF itself is on your device. A link to the story’s web page will still require an internet connection.

Kindle e-reader or Kindle app

Download the EPUB or PDF, then send it to your Kindle while you are still online. Amazon’s Send to Kindle service accepts files in three ways:

• By email to your Kindle’s Send-to-Kindle address
• Through the Send to Kindle app
• Through Send to Kindle on the web

Amazon converts the EPUB and adds the book to your Kindle library. It can then appear on Kindle e-readers and in the Kindle app. When sending by email, you must use an address on your approved sender list.

Send to Kindle no longer accepts MOBI files. WP Downloader does not create MOBI or AZW3 files, so use EPUB or PDF instead. Send the file before your flight because delivery requires an internet connection. The SciFiStories Kindle guide explains the full process.

Kobo

Download the EPUB while you are online and transfer it to the Kobo you plan to carry. Open the book on the device before leaving for the airport. See the SciFiStories Kobo guide for device-specific instructions.

Laptop

Save the EPUB or PDF on your laptop and open it with a compatible reading app. Check that the file has finished downloading instead of leaving it in a browser prompt or relying on the story’s web page.

Test the book in airplane mode

Check the book before your flight:

1. Confirm that the download has finished.
2. Open the story in your reading app.
3. Turn on airplane mode.
4. Close the story and open it again.
5. Move through a few chapters to confirm that the whole book is available.

If the story does not reopen, turn off airplane mode and download, transfer, or send it again while you have a connection.

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an existing EPUB. For an ongoing story, download the whole story again before your trip to get the latest available chapters.

Checklist before you leave

• Download the complete SciFiStories story.
• Save it as EPUB or PDF.
• Include the story’s images if you want them in the book.
