How to put a SquidgeWorld story on Kindle with calibre and USB
You can put a SquidgeWorld Archive story on a Kindle without Amazon’s Send to Kindle service. First, download the complete story as an EPUB with WP Downloader. You can then use calibre to convert it to AZW3 and transfer it to your Kindle over USB.
What you need
Have these ready:
- The link to the SquidgeWorld Archive story
- A computer running Windows, macOS, or Linux
- calibre, the free e-book manager
- Your Kindle and a USB connection
WP Downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything to download the story. calibre handles the conversion and USB transfer.
1. Download the SquidgeWorld story with WP Downloader
Open the SquidgeWorld story downloader and copy the story’s address from squidgeworld.org. A story URL looks like this:
https://squidgeworld.org/works/123456Paste the link into WP Downloader. It will recognize the SquidgeWorld Archive link and prepare the complete story.
Choose EPUB as the output format. EPUB is free for everyone and works as the source file for the calibre conversion. You can also choose whether to include the story’s images.
WP Downloader downloads complete SquidgeWorld stories. It does not download individual chapters or lists. If the story gets new chapters, download it again to create a new EPUB. WP Downloader cannot add chapters to an EPUB you already downloaded.
Members-only SquidgeWorld stories
You do not need to sign in for public stories. To download a story that is available only to signed-in SquidgeWorld members, sign in with your account on that site through WP Downloader.
WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested. It can download only what your account is allowed to read and does not bypass members-only access or age restrictions.

2. Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre on your computer and select “Add books.” Find the EPUB from WP Downloader and add it to your calibre library.
The story will appear in your library. You can edit its metadata or cover before transferring it. You can also open the EPUB in calibre’s e-book viewer to check the text and any included images.
3. Connect your Kindle over USB
Connect the Kindle to your computer with a USB cable and wait for calibre to recognize it.
The book will go directly from your computer to the Kindle, without being uploaded to Amazon through the Send to Kindle service.
4. Convert the EPUB to AZW3
WP Downloader creates EPUB and PDF files. It does not create MOBI or AZW3 files, so use calibre to convert the EPUB to AZW3 for this USB transfer.
Select the story in your calibre library and start the conversion. Choose AZW3 as the output format and let calibre create the new copy.
calibre can also convert books to formats such as MOBI and PDF, but this guide uses AZW3.
5. Send the story to your Kindle
Keep the Kindle connected, select the story in calibre, and choose “Send to device.” Send the AZW3 version to the Kindle.
Once the transfer finishes, you can read the story offline on the Kindle. The original EPUB and converted AZW3 copy remain in your calibre library.

You can also read the EPUB on your computer with calibre’s e-book viewer. The viewer has a “Read aloud” feature.
FAQ
Can I put a SquidgeWorld story on Kindle without Send to Kindle?
Yes. Download the story as an EPUB with WP Downloader, convert it to AZW3 in calibre, connect the Kindle over USB, and choose “Send to device.”
Why not copy the WP Downloader EPUB directly?
WP Downloader does not create an AZW3 file. calibre can convert the EPUB to AZW3 before sending it to the connected Kindle.
Does Kindle still open MOBI files transferred over USB?
Yes. Kindles still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB. Amazon’s Send to Kindle service stopped accepting MOBI, but you can still copy MOBI files over USB.
Can WP Downloader download one SquidgeWorld chapter?
No. For SquidgeWorld Archive, WP Downloader downloads the complete story. It does not download individual chapters or lists.
What should I do when a story gets a new chapter?
