How to Put a SciFiStories Story on a Kindle With calibre
You can put a SciFiStories story on a Kindle without using Amazon’s Send to Kindle service. First download the story as an EPUB with WP Downloader, then use calibre to convert it to AZW3 and transfer it over USB.
You will need a computer because calibre runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. This method is useful if you prefer transferring books directly by cable instead of sending them through Amazon.
What you need
Before you begin, gather:
- The SciFiStories story link
- A SciFiStories account
- A computer with calibre installed
- A USB cable for your Kindle
- Your Kindle e-reader

Step 1: Copy the SciFiStories story link
Open the story on scifistories.com and copy the full URL from your browser’s address bar. A SciFiStories story URL looks like this:

Step 2: Download the story with WP Downloader
Open the SciFiStories downloader and paste the story link into the download box.
SciFiStories requires you to sign in with an account on the site. WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested. It can download only content that your account can already read and does not bypass locked content, paywalls, or age restrictions.
Choose EPUB as the output format. EPUB is free for everyone and can be converted to a Kindle format with calibre. You can also choose whether to include the story’s images.
PDF is available after a free Discord sign-in, but use EPUB for this process. WP Downloader does not create AZW3 or MOBI files.

Step 3: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre and select Add books. Find the downloaded EPUB and add it to your calibre library.
You can edit the story’s metadata and cover before converting it. You can also open the EPUB in calibre’s e-book viewer to check the file or use its Read aloud feature to listen on your computer.
Step 4: Connect your Kindle over USB
Connect the Kindle to your computer with its USB cable and wait for calibre to recognize it.
Select the SciFiStories book in your calibre library once the device appears. You can then convert the EPUB to AZW3, a Kindle format that works with USB transfers.
Step 5: Convert the EPUB to AZW3
Select the story and choose Convert books in calibre. Set EPUB as the input format and AZW3 as the output format, then start the conversion.
The original file remains an EPUB while calibre creates an AZW3 copy. calibre can also convert EPUB files to formats such as MOBI and PDF, but choose AZW3 for this guide.
Step 6: Send the story to your Kindle
Select the converted story and choose Send to device. calibre will copy the book to the connected Kindle over USB.
After the transfer finishes, safely disconnect the Kindle. The story will be available on the device for offline reading.
To get newer chapters later, download the complete story again and repeat the conversion and transfer. WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an existing EPUB.
USB transfer and Send to Kindle
With a USB transfer, calibre converts the EPUB and copies the AZW3 file directly to the connected Kindle.
Amazon’s Send to Kindle service no longer accepts MOBI files. Kindle e-readers can still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied to them over USB.
