Put a FanFiktion.de Story on Kindle with calibre
You can put a FanFiktion.de story on a Kindle without Amazon’s Send to Kindle service. Download the whole story as an EPUB with WP Downloader, add it to calibre, convert it to AZW3, and copy it to your Kindle over USB.

Step 1: Copy the FanFiktion.de story link
Open the story on fanfiktion.de and copy the URL from your browser’s address bar. A story link looks like this:

Step 2: Download the story with WP Downloader
Open the FanFiktion.de downloader and paste the story link into the box. WP Downloader detects the site and prepares the whole story.
Choose EPUB for this guide. EPUB downloads are free for everyone, and calibre can convert the file to a Kindle format. You can also choose whether to include the story’s images.
You can sign in with your FanFiktion.de account to reach members-only stories. WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested. It can download only material your account can already read and does not bypass restrictions.

Step 3: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre and select Add books. Find the downloaded EPUB and add it to your calibre library.
The story will appear in your book list. You can edit its metadata or cover before converting it, or leave them as they are.
Step 4: Convert the EPUB to AZW3
Select the FanFiktion.de story in calibre and choose the book conversion option. Set AZW3 as the output format and start the conversion.
AZW3 is a Kindle format that you can copy to the device over USB. WP Downloader does not create AZW3 or MOBI files, but calibre can convert the EPUB to either format.
Wait until calibre finishes the conversion before continuing.
Step 5: Connect the Kindle over USB
Connect your Kindle e-reader to the computer with a USB cable. After calibre recognizes it, select the converted story and choose Send to device.
calibre will copy the book to the Kindle over USB. You do not need to email the file or upload it to Amazon’s Send to Kindle service.
Amazon’s Send to Kindle service no longer accepts MOBI, but Kindle e-readers can still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB. For this guide, convert the EPUB to AZW3.
USB transfer or Send to Kindle?
With the USB method, calibre converts the EPUB and copies the AZW3 file to a connected Kindle. This method also lets you manage the book on your computer and edit its metadata or cover before transferring it.

calibre can keep the original EPUB in its library, convert books to other formats, and open them in its e-book viewer. The viewer has a Read aloud feature, so you can read the downloaded story on your computer without transferring it to a Kindle.
Updating a story with new chapters
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB already in your calibre library. When the author publishes another chapter, download the whole story again.
Add the new EPUB to calibre, convert it to AZW3, and transfer the new version to your Kindle over USB.
