Send to Kindle uploads a supported document through Amazon’s service. Calibre converts and transfers the book locally from your computer to a Kindle connected by USB.
Kindles still open AZW3 and MOBI files copied over USB. Amazon stopped accepting MOBI through Send to Kindle, but MOBI files can still be transferred directly to a Kindle. Because WP Downloader provides EPUB rather than MOBI or AZW3, calibre handles both the conversion and the USB transfer.

Updating the Kindle copy
