Listen on an iPhone or iPad
Apple Books opens EPUB files and works with Speak Screen on iPhones and iPads.
Turn on Speak Screen:
- Open Settings.
- Select Accessibility.
- Select Spoken Content.
- Turn on Speak Screen.
Open the downloaded EPUB in Apple Books. To start listening, swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen.
Speak Screen uses the text-to-speech voices installed on your device, so the narration depends on the voice you choose.
Listen on Android
Android has several ways to read an EPUB aloud.
Use Select to Speak
Open Settings, select Accessibility, and turn on Select to Speak. You can then tap items on the screen to hear them read aloud.
How you open the EPUB depends on your reading app. You can also use an EPUB reader with its own read-aloud controls.
Use Moon+ Reader
Moon+ Reader opens EPUB files and has a built-in text-to-speech mode.
Open the EPUB from WP Downloader in Moon+ Reader, then start its text-to-speech mode. The app uses the voices installed on your Android device.
Use @Voice Aloud Reader
@Voice Aloud Reader also reads EPUB files aloud. Open the downloaded story in the app and use its read-aloud controls to start listening.
The narration depends on the text-to-speech voices installed on your device.
Listen on Windows, macOS, or Linux
Thorium Reader and calibre can both read EPUB files aloud on a computer.
Use Thorium Reader
Thorium Reader is free and available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Open the downloaded story in Thorium Reader, then select its read-aloud feature.
Use calibre
calibre is another free desktop option. Open the EPUB in calibre’s e-book viewer, then select Read aloud.
Both programs use your computer’s text-to-speech voices. The voice you select affects how natural the narration sounds.
Listen to newly added chapters
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you have already downloaded. When the story is updated, return to the Potions and Snitches downloader, paste the story link again, and download a new copy. Open the new EPUB in your reading app to hear the added chapters.
