How to Listen to Inkitt Stories with Text to Speech

To listen to an Inkitt story, download it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and open the file in an app that supports text to speech. You can do this on an iPhone, iPad, Android device, Windows PC, Mac, or Linux computer.

How Inkitt text to speech works

WP Downloader saves Inkitt stories as EPUB e-books. It does not turn them into audiobooks. Once you have the EPUB, you can use a reader’s read-aloud feature or your device’s accessibility tools to listen.

WP Downloader is a free web tool, so there is no downloader to install:

1. Copy the Inkitt story link.

4. Sign in with your Inkitt account when prompted.
5. Choose whether to include the story’s images.

EPUB downloads are free for everyone. WP Downloader can also create a PDF if you sign in with a free Discord account, but the read-aloud apps in this guide open EPUB files.

WP Downloader can only download content that your Inkitt account is allowed to read. It does not bypass locked chapters, paywalls, or age restrictions. Your account credentials are used only to fetch the story you requested.

Listen on an iPhone or iPad

Apple Books opens EPUB files, and the built-in Speak Screen accessibility feature reads the page aloud.

Turn on Speak Screen

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Accessibility.
3. Select Spoken Content.
4. Turn on Speak Screen.

Open the downloaded EPUB in Apple Books, then swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen to start reading the page aloud.

Speak Screen uses the text-to-speech voices installed on your iPhone or iPad, so the available voices determine how the narration sounds.

Listen on an Android phone or tablet

On Android, you can use Select to Speak or open the EPUB in a reader with its own read-aloud mode.

Use Select to Speak

Turn on Select to Speak under Settings, then Accessibility. Once it is on, tap items on the screen to hear them read aloud.

Use Moon+ Reader

Moon+ Reader opens EPUB files and has a built-in text-to-speech mode. Download the EPUB from WP Downloader, open it in Moon+ Reader, and start the app’s read-aloud function.

Use @Voice Aloud Reader

@Voice Aloud Reader can also read EPUB files aloud. Open the downloaded Inkitt EPUB in the app and start its read-aloud function.

These options use the text-to-speech voices installed on your Android device, so the voice you choose affects how the reading sounds.

Listen on Windows, macOS, or Linux

Thorium Reader and calibre both open EPUB files and provide read-aloud features on desktop computers.

Use Thorium Reader

Thorium Reader is a free EPUB reader for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Open the EPUB from WP Downloader in Thorium Reader, then start its read-aloud feature.

Use calibre

calibre is a free desktop e-book application. Open the downloaded EPUB in its e-book viewer and use the Read aloud feature.

Both programs use the text-to-speech voices installed on your computer. If the narration is hard to follow, try another installed voice.

Tips for listening

Download the EPUB format

Every reader covered on this page opens EPUB files. Download the Inkitt story as an EPUB before moving it to your chosen reader.

Include the story’s images

WP Downloader can include a story’s images in the downloaded book. The images do not affect how the text is spoken, but they remain available while you read the EPUB.

Try another installed voice

The reader apps and accessibility tools in this guide use your device’s text-to-speech voices. If one voice sounds unnatural or is difficult to follow, try another voice installed on the device.

Download a new copy after updates

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an existing EPUB. When an Inkitt story gets new chapters, paste its link into WP Downloader again and download a new copy.

Save the EPUB for later

Can WP Downloader turn an Inkitt story into an audiobook?

Do I need an Inkitt account?
