WP Downloader is a free web tool that saves a complete Archive of Our Own work as an EPUB or PDF. Paste the work’s URL into WPD, choose a format, and download the file. You do not need to install anything.
How to download an AO3 fic
Copy the URL of the AO3 work you want to download. A work URL usually looks like this:

- Open the AO3 work.
- Copy the URL from your browser’s address bar.
- Go to WP Downloader.
- Paste the AO3 link into the box on the home page.
- Wait for WP Downloader to detect the site.
- Choose EPUB or PDF.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the file.
WP Downloader downloads the whole work with all its chapters. It cannot download a single AO3 chapter separately.

Which AO3 URL should I paste?
Use a link that contains the work number:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/123456The link must point to the work itself. WP Downloader uses it to identify and download the complete work.
If you are reading one chapter of a multi-chapter work, use the work URL when possible. WPD downloads the whole work rather than a single chapter or a list of works.
Do I need to sign in to AO3?
You do not need to sign in for public works.
Restricted works are visible only to registered AO3 users. To download one, sign in with an AO3 account that can already read it. WP Downloader uses your account credentials only to fetch the story you requested.
WPD only downloads content your account can already access. It does not bypass restricted access, age restrictions, paywalls, or locked content.
An AO3 sign-in and a Discord sign-in have different purposes:
- Sign in to AO3 when a work is restricted.
- Sign in with Discord to download a PDF.
- EPUB downloads do not require a Discord sign-in.
A restricted work still requires an eligible AO3 account regardless of the format you choose.

Both formats save the complete AO3 work as a file.

PDF downloads require a free Discord sign-in.
WPD does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files. To get new chapters after an AO3 work is updated, download the work again. WP Downloader cannot add chapters to an EPUB you previously downloaded.
Reading an AO3 download on an e-reader or Kindle
Download the EPUB, then open or transfer it using the method supported by your device or reading app.
For Kindle, download the EPUB and follow the Send to Kindle guide. WP Downloader does not create MOBI or AZW3 files.
Including images from the work
WP Downloader has an option to include the story’s images. Enable it before downloading if you want the images included in the EPUB or PDF. Leave it off if you do not want them.
