Do TTH Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?
You can download a Twisting the Hellmouth story as an EPUB, add it to Apple Books, and read it offline. Apple does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward Reading Goals, but you can test an imported story on your device.
Download a story with WP Downloader
Find the story on tthfanfic.org and copy its URL. A story address looks like this:
https://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-1234Open the Twisting the Hellmouth downloader, paste the link into the box, and wait for WP Downloader to detect the site. The tool runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install.
For Apple Books, choose EPUB. This format is free for everyone. Apple Books also opens PDFs, but creating a PDF with WP Downloader requires a free Discord sign-in. You can include the story’s images in either format.
WP Downloader downloads the whole story from Twisting the Hellmouth. It cannot download a single chapter or a list of stories from the site. If the author adds chapters later, download the story again. WP Downloader cannot update an existing EPUB.
You can sign in with your Twisting the Hellmouth account to reach members-only stories that the account can already read. Signing in is optional. WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the requested story and does not bypass access restrictions.
The Twisting the Hellmouth download guide covers the process in more detail.
Add the EPUB to Apple Books
On iPhone or iPad
Find the downloaded EPUB in the Files app or Safari’s downloads. Open the file, or open the Share menu and choose Books.
Apple Books will add the story to your Library. You can open it there and read it offline.
On Mac
Open the Books app and drag the EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the downloaded file.
The story will appear in your Apple Books Library.
How Apple Books Reading Goals work
Reading Goals track:
- How many minutes you read each day
- How many books and audiobooks you finish each year
The daily goal is five minutes by default. To change it on an iPhone or iPad, go to the Reading Now tab. On a Mac, go to Home.
Adding a story to your Library does not tell you whether its reading time will count toward a goal. An imported EPUB can open normally even though Apple does not document how Reading Goals handle it.
Check whether your imported EPUB counts
Apple does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. Test the downloaded story on your device:
- Open Apple Books and note today’s reading time.
- Open the imported Twisting the Hellmouth EPUB.
- Read for one or two minutes.
- Return to Reading Now on an iPhone or iPad, or Home on a Mac.
- See whether today’s reading time increased.
If the total goes up, Apple Books counted the reading session on your device. If it does not, repeat the test once to confirm the result.
Let PDFs count toward Reading Goals
PDFs count toward the reading goal only when Include PDFs is turned on.
On current versions of iOS, open Settings, choose Apps, then Books, and turn on Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings, choose Books, and find the same option.
Once it is enabled, open the imported PDF in Apple Books and test it in the same way. Note the current daily total, read for a minute or two, and see whether the total increases.
EPUB is the simpler format for reading a downloaded story, but you will need this setting if you chose PDF in WP Downloader or keep other PDFs in Apple Books.
