Do SIYE stories count toward Apple Books Reading Goals?

Apple does not clearly state whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward your daily reading time. To check, add the SIYE story to Apple Books, read for a minute or two, and see whether today’s total goes up. PDFs count when the Include PDFs setting is turned on.

Download an SIYE story with WP Downloader

WP Downloader is a free web tool that works with complete stories from Sink Into Your Eyes at siye.co.uk. You do not need to install anything or sign in to SIYE.

A SIYE story link looks like this:

https://www.siye.co.uk/siye/viewstory.php?sid=1234

To download a story:

1. Open the story on SIYE and copy its URL.
2. Go to the SIYE downloader.
3. Paste the story link into the box.
4. Choose EPUB or PDF.
5. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
6. Download the finished file to your device.

WP Downloader downloads the whole story. It does not download individual chapters or lists of stories.

EPUB is free for everyone. PDF is also available, but you need to sign in with a free Discord account to download it.

If the author adds more chapters later, download the story again. WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB you have already saved.

Add the SIYE story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Imported files appear in your Library.

On an iPhone or iPad

1. Open the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
2. Find the EPUB or PDF.
3. Open the Share menu.
4. Choose Books.

The story will appear in your Apple Books Library.

On a Mac

Open the Books app and drag the downloaded EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the file.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Reading Goals track how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year. The default daily goal is five minutes.

On an iPhone or iPad, you can change the daily goal from the Reading Now tab. On a Mac, change it from Home.

Apple Books can open an imported EPUB, but Apple’s documentation does not say whether reading it adds to your daily total.

Check whether an imported EPUB counts

Test the EPUB in Apple Books:

1. Note today’s reading time.
2. Open the imported SIYE EPUB.
3. Read for one or two minutes.
4. Return to your Reading Goals.
5. See whether today’s reading time has increased.

If the total goes up, Apple Books is counting the time spent reading that EPUB. If it stays the same, reading more of the file is unlikely to change the result.

The yearly finished-books goal is separate from the daily reading-time goal. If you want the story to count toward your yearly total, check your progress after you finish it.

Make PDF reading count

PDFs count toward Reading Goals only when Include PDFs is turned on.

On current versions of iOS:

1. Open Settings.
2. Choose Apps.
3. Choose Books.
4. Turn on Include PDFs.

On older versions, open Settings, choose Books, and turn on Include PDFs.

After changing the setting, read the PDF in Apple Books for a minute or two and check your daily reading time again.

Choose a file format

Try EPUB first if you want to read the SIYE story as a book in Apple Books. Since Apple does not clearly document whether imported EPUBs count toward Reading Goals, use the short reading test to check.

Choose PDF if you prefer that format and are willing to use a free Discord sign-in for the download. Turn on Include PDFs if you want the reading time to count toward your daily goal.

For another device, you can send SIYE stories to Kindle or read SIYE stories on Kobo.
