You can read downloaded Missing Pieces stories in Apple Books. PDFs count toward Reading Goals when Include PDFs is enabled. Apple does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count, so you will need to test an imported EPUB on your device.

Download a story with WP Downloader

Add the story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Imported stories appear in your Library.

On iPhone or iPad

1. Find the downloaded EPUB or PDF in the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
2. Open the Share menu.
3. Choose Books.
4. Open Apple Books and find the story in your Library.

On Mac

1. Open the Books app.
2. Drag the EPUB into the Books window.

You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the EPUB. The imported story will appear in your Library.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Apple Books tracks how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year. The default daily goal is five minutes.

On an iPhone or iPad, you can change the daily goal from the Reading Now tab. On a Mac, you can change it from Home.

Adding a Missing Pieces story to your Library does not tell you whether Apple Books will record the time you spend reading it. Apple does not document whether imported EPUBs count toward daily reading time, so check the Reading Goal after reading the file.

Check whether an imported EPUB counts

After adding the story:

1. Note today’s reading time in Apple Books.
2. Open the imported Missing Pieces EPUB.
3. Read for a minute or two.
4. Return to your Reading Goals information.
5. Check whether today’s reading time increased.

If the total increases, Apple Books is counting the imported EPUB on your device. If it does not, you can still open and read the story from your Library, but that reading time is not being added to the goal.

Make a PDF count toward your reading goal

Apple Books counts PDFs toward your reading goal only when Include PDFs is turned on.

On current versions of iOS, go to Settings, Apps, then Books and enable Include PDFs. On older versions, go to Settings, then Books and turn on Include PDFs.

Once the setting is enabled, open the imported PDF and read for a minute or two. Check the day’s reading time afterward to confirm that it increased.
