Do LCFanfic Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?
You can read stories from the Lois & Clark Fanfic Archive in Apple Books after downloading them as EPUB or PDF files with WP Downloader. PDFs count toward Reading Goals when Include PDFs is turned on. Apple does not document whether EPUB files you import yourself count, but you can test one on your device.
Download an LCFanfic story with WP Downloader
WP Downloader is a free web tool with nothing to install. It downloads complete English-language stories from the Lois & Clark Fanfic Archive at lcfanfic.com, and you do not need to sign in.
A story address may look like this:
http://lcfanfic.com/stories/2017/html/a-story-name To download a story:
- Open the LCFanfic downloader.
- Copy the story’s address from your browser.
- Paste the address into WP Downloader.
- Choose EPUB or PDF.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the finished file.
EPUB is free for everyone. PDF requires a free Discord sign-in. For this archive, WP Downloader downloads the whole story. It does not download individual chapters or lists of stories.
For more detailed instructions, see the LCFanfic story download guide.
Add the story to Apple Books
Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Imported files appear in your Library.
On an iPhone or iPad
After downloading the story:
- Find the EPUB or PDF in the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
- Open the file or tap Share.
- Choose Books.
- Open Apple Books and find the story in your Library.
On a Mac
Open the Books app and drag the downloaded EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the EPUB. The story will appear in your Library.
How Apple Books Reading Goals work
Apple Books tracks how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year. The daily goal is five minutes by default.
On an iPhone or iPad, you can change the daily goal from the Reading Now tab. On a Mac, change it from Home.
PDFs require an additional setting before their reading time counts toward your goal.
Make PDF reading count
If you downloaded the story as a PDF, turn on Include PDFs.
On current versions of iOS, go to Settings, Apps, Books, then turn on Include PDFs. On older versions, go to Settings, Books, and turn on Include PDFs.
Reading time from PDFs only counts toward your goal when this setting is on.
Check whether an imported EPUB counts
Apple’s documentation does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. Check the imported story on your device:
- Note today’s reading time in Apple Books.
- Open the imported LCFanfic EPUB.
- Read for a minute or two.
- Return to your Reading Goal.
- See whether today’s reading time increased.
If the total has not changed, close the story, return to Reading Now on an iPhone or iPad or Home on a Mac, and check again.
You can also send LCFanfic stories to Kindle or read LCFanfic stories on Kobo.
