Do Gluttony: Fanfiction Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?
Apple Books opens Gluttony: Fanfiction stories downloaded as EPUB or PDF files. PDFs count toward Reading Goals only when Include PDFs is turned on. Apple does not document whether EPUB files you import yourself count, so you will need to check your daily reading time after reading for a minute or two.

Add the story to Apple Books
Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Once imported, the story appears in your Library.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the downloaded file from the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
- Tap Share.
- Choose Books.
You can then open the story from your Apple Books Library.
On Mac
Open the Books app and drag the EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the downloaded file.
How Apple Books Reading Goals work
Apple Books tracks how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year. The default daily goal is five minutes.
On an iPhone or iPad, you can change the daily goal from the Reading Now tab. On a Mac, change it from Home.
Whether reading an imported file adds to your daily total depends on the file type and your settings.
Make a downloaded PDF count
PDFs count toward your Reading Goal only when Include PDFs is turned on.
On current versions of iOS:
- Open Settings.
- Choose Apps.
- Choose Books.
- Turn on Include PDFs.
On older versions of iOS, open Settings, choose Books, and turn on Include PDFs.
This setting applies to PDF files. Make sure you downloaded and imported the PDF version of the story if you want to use it.
Check whether an imported EPUB counts
Apple’s documentation does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. You can check how Apple Books behaves on your device:
- Note today’s reading time in Apple Books.
- Open the imported Gluttony: Fanfiction EPUB.
- Read for a minute or two.
- Return to your Reading Goal and check whether today’s reading time increased.
If the time increased, Apple Books counted the reading toward your daily total. If it did not, the imported EPUB may not be adding to the goal.
If you want to use the documented PDF setting, download the story as a PDF and turn on Include PDFs.
