Do Eros & Sappho Stories Count Toward Apple Books Goals?

You can add an Eros & Sappho story to Apple Books as an EPUB or PDF. PDFs count toward Reading Goals when Apple’s Include PDFs setting is enabled. Apple does not document whether an EPUB you imported yourself counts toward daily reading time, so you will need to check on your device.

Add the story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Imported stories appear in your Library.

On an iPhone or iPad

1. Download the EPUB or PDF with WP Downloader.
2. Open the file from Safari’s downloads or the Files app.
3. Open the Share menu.
4. Choose Books.

The story will be added to your Apple Books Library.

On a Mac

Open the Books app and drag the downloaded EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the file.

After importing it, open the story from your Library.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Reading Goals track two things:

• The number of minutes you read each day. The default daily goal is five minutes.
• The number of books and audiobooks you finish each year.

You can change the daily goal from the Reading Now tab on an iPhone or iPad. On a Mac, change it from Home.

Apple provides an Include PDFs option for PDF reading. Its documentation does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself contribute to daily reading time.

Check whether an imported story counts

Test an imported EPUB by comparing today’s reading time before and after a short reading session:

1. Open Apple Books and note today’s reading time.
2. Open the imported Eros & Sappho EPUB.
3. Read for a minute or two.
4. Return to the Reading Goals area.
5. Check whether today’s reading time increased.

For a PDF, enable PDF tracking before testing it.

On current iOS versions, go to Settings, Apps, Books and turn on Include PDFs. On older versions, go to Settings, Books instead. Read the PDF briefly, then check whether today’s reading time has increased.
