How to Back Up Wattpad Stories for Personal Reading

Authors and sites can edit, unpublish, or delete stories. Saving a Wattpad story as an EPUB gives you a personal copy of the version available when you downloaded it.

Download a Wattpad story with WP Downloader

1. Open the Wattpad downloader.

EPUB is free for everyone. PDF is also available after you sign in with a free Discord account.

You do not need a Wattpad account for public stories. Signing in with your Wattpad account also lets you download paid stories your account owns and stories from your library or archive. WP Downloader supports whole stories, single parts, and complete Wattpad reading lists.

WP Downloader retrieves only content your account can already read. It does not bypass paywalls, locked chapters, or age restrictions. Your credentials are used only to fetch the content you requested.

Keep the EPUB as a dated snapshot

A downloaded EPUB is not connected to Wattpad after you save it. It contains the version of the story that was available at the time of download.

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. Download the story again whenever you want a copy with later chapters. You can keep both files if you want to preserve different versions of the story.

Keep downloaded copies for your own reading. Do not re-upload or share someone else’s work.

Store your downloaded copy

Move the EPUB from your browser’s download folder to the place where you keep personal books. A filename that identifies each version can help you distinguish older downloads from newer ones.

You can also keep another copy in a separate personal storage location. If the Wattpad page changes or disappears, the EPUB remains a snapshot of the version you downloaded.

PDF is available if you prefer it. EPUB works with e-book apps and can be organized or converted with calibre.

Read the EPUB on a phone or tablet

Organize and read EPUB files with calibre

The free e-book manager calibre is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can use it to organize and open EPUB files downloaded from WP Downloader.

To add a story:

1. Open calibre.
2. Select “Add books.”
3. Choose the EPUB you downloaded from WP Downloader.
4. Check the title, author, cover, and other metadata.
5. Open the book in calibre’s e-book viewer when you want to read it.

The viewer has a Read aloud feature. Calibre can also edit metadata and covers, convert EPUB files to formats such as AZW3, MOBI, or PDF, and send books to a connected e-reader over USB.

WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files. Use calibre to convert the EPUB if you need another supported format.

Put the story on an e-reader

The method for adding an EPUB to your personal e-reader library depends on the device.

Can WP Downloader save a story that has already been deleted?

WP Downloader needs access to the story you ask it to download. Save your personal copy while the story is still available to you.

Will my EPUB receive new chapters automatically?

No. The EPUB is a snapshot from the time you downloaded it. Download the story again to get later chapters.

Do I need a Wattpad account?

Public stories do not require an account. Signing in lets WP Downloader access paid stories your account owns and stories in your Wattpad library or archive.

Can I save the story as MOBI or AZW3?

WP Downloader creates EPUB and PDF files, not MOBI or AZW3 files. You can add the EPUB to calibre and convert it there.

Can I share my backup?
