How to Back Up Missing Pieces Stories

Authors and websites can edit, unpublish or delete stories. WP Downloader lets you save a complete Missing Pieces story as an EPUB or PDF for your own reading. The file is a snapshot of the story at the time you downloaded it, so it remains on your device if the online version changes.

Download a story with WP Downloader

WP Downloader is a free web tool with nothing to install. Missing Pieces is hosted by the Pretender Centre at pretendercentre.com, and you do not need an account to download its English-language stories.

Open the story on Missing Pieces. Its address should look like this:

Copy the full address, then:

1. Open the Missing Pieces downloader.
2. Paste the story link into the box.
3. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
4. Download the story as an EPUB.

EPUB is free for everyone. You can also download a PDF after signing in with a free Discord account. For Missing Pieces, WP Downloader saves the whole story. It does not download individual chapters or story lists.

Store your backup

After the download finishes, find the EPUB or PDF in your browser’s downloads or your device’s file storage. Move it to a folder where you keep personal story backups.

A simple folder structure is enough:

Keep the original file if you import it into a reading app. You can then copy it to another device later without exporting it from the app.

You may also want to keep a second personal copy on another device or storage location. This protects your backup if you lose a phone, replace a computer or accidentally delete a folder.

Organize EPUB files with calibre

Calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS and Linux. You can use it to manage EPUB files, edit metadata and covers, and read books in its e-book viewer.

To add a story:

1. Open calibre.
2. Select “Add books.”
3. Choose the EPUB you downloaded from WP Downloader.
4. Check the title and other metadata so you can find the story later.

Calibre can convert an EPUB to formats such as AZW3, MOBI or PDF. WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3 or TXT files, so conversion is useful when you need another format. Calibre can also send books to a connected e-reader over USB.

Its e-book viewer has a “Read aloud” feature for listening to a saved story offline.

Move the story to your reading device

You can keep an EPUB on your phone, computer or compatible e-reader and open it with an EPUB reading app. Save the original file before moving or importing it if you want to keep a separate backup.

With calibre, you can connect an e-reader to your computer over USB and send the book from your library. You can convert the EPUB first if the device requires another format.

Download a new copy after changes

A downloaded EPUB is not connected to the online story. It contains the version available when you downloaded it.

If the author adds chapters or edits the story, paste its link into WP Downloader and download it again. WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an existing EPUB.

You can keep older versions and add dates to their filenames or folders to tell them apart. Keep all downloaded copies for your own reading. Do not re-upload or share them.

Can I back up a single Missing Pieces chapter?
